Studying with Child

Students with children may still be a minority at the universities, but the tendency to combine familiy and study is definitely on the rise. Day-care during lecture hours has therefore become a popular demand. Since the amendment of the Bayerisches Hochschulgesetz [Bavarian Education Act] in 1988 the organisation of day-care facilities is one of the central services of the Studentenwerk München [Munich Student Union].
Starting in the fall/winter-semster 2007/2008, the Studentenwerk München [Munich Student Union] will be supplying day-care for 214 children ages 1-3 in 19 groups and 16 facilities. These don't want to be used as mere "child storage" facilities, but strive to provide a valuable educational, family-supporting contribution to the child's development.
On top of that, all student parents have access to the "Students With Children Helpdesk" at the Studentenhaus on Leopoldstrasse 15. There they can get excellent counseling by experienced professionals, get important tips and will have lively exchange with other students or young families.
