Our Mission

The Studentenwerk [Student Union] München is a public agency. Its assignment is regulated by the Bayerische Hochschulgesetz [Bavarian legislation act for higher education]:

“The central duty of the Studentenwerke [Student Unions] is the economic and social support of students of all state-run universities, particularly by establishing and operating child-care-facilities, by building and operating student dormitories and operating dining facilities as well as by installing institutions of cultural and social relevance; within the scopr of their duties the Studentenwerke shall contribute  to the promotion of international relations”.
Bayerisches Hochschulgesetz [Bavarian legislation act for higher education] (Art.99, 1)

To fullfill these duties and to provide for all students, the Studentenwerk [Student Union] charges a Studentenwerksbeitrag [student union fee], which is standardized state-wide by the Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst [Bavarian state ministry for sciences, research and art]. This contribution however can only cover part of the wide range of services the  Studentenwerk [Student Unions] provides.

The Munich Round Table for Social Affairs (Münchner Sozialrunde) is one way the Munich Student Union supports and involves itself with the specific interests of foreign students.
