International Partnerships
The International Section of the Studentenwerk München [Munich Student Union] has a long-lasting tradition and is of great importance. Because of it, the close partnership with the CROUS in Lyon has now been existing for 30 years. Student Exchange, Employee Exchange, the development of projects to improve our service- and support accomplishments, cultural projects and courses - all this is the agenda of our joint efforts. To follow this example of a successful partnership, the Studentenwerk [Student Union] steadily works to expand its international network:
Partnership Lyon
The partnership with the CROUS of Lyon is the oldest the Studentenwerk München [Munich Student Union] has. In the upcoming year we are celebrating our 30th anniversary – an occasion we want to celebrate with many events in Munich and Lyon. Celebrate with us! Partnership Florence
The partnership between the Studentenwerk München [Munich Student Union] and the Florence Student Union has been in existence since 1990. Since then a tradition of “trinational” workshops has developed in the field of theater and music-theater as well as collective language courses of the three Student Unions Munich – Florence – Lyon.
Partnership Bragança
The Studentenwerk München [Munich Student Union] has maintained partnership with the Acção Social do Instituto Politécnico de Bragança since 1994, with emphasis on student exchange. Normally, a group visits the particular partner city once a year. The meetings are usually headed with a special motto, for instance, “Agriculture”, so that as many students as possible can participate.
Partnership Ottawa
Since spring 1997 a partnership with the "Direction Générale des Affaires Etudiantes de l'Université d'Ottawa" has existed, which is still in its buildup at present.
Partnership Zagreb
A contract of partnership Sveuciliste u Zagrebu Studentski Centar u Zagrebu was concluded on the first of May 2000. Our shared aim is European teamwork and the advancement and deepening of friendships between students of the Zagrebu Student Union and of the Studentenwerk München [Munich Student Union]. Additionally, the founding and work of German and Croatian Student Associations shall be supported.
Partnership Detroit
Since 2000, a partnership between the Wayne-State-University in Detroit/ Michigan (USA) and the Studentenwerk München [Munich Student Union] has existed. The contract is based on a cooperation between Wayne State University, the German-American Cultural Center in Detroit, the Studentenwerk München [Munich Student Union] and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität.
Both institutions want to strengthen the collaboration between the Studentenwerk München [Munich Student Union] and the Junior Year in Munich and to further the German-American friendship.
Partnership Shanghai
The partnership of the Studentenwerk München [Munich Student Union] with the Tongji-Universtiy has existed since October 23rd, 2000. Most students in Shanghai and Munich have profited from this partnership already, as there is a regular exchange of the cooking staff of the dining halls of Shanghai and Munich. Every other year a delegation of cooks from Munich travels to Shanghai to cook Bavarian specialties in the local dining hall, and the following year pros from China are coming to treat the students of the Studentenwerk München [Munich Student Union] - last time in the Garching Mensa (2003).
Partnership Tunis
Our youngest partnership with the Office des Ouvres Universitaires pour le Nord in Tunis was concluded in May 2002 with the intention to extend the already close contact between Bavaria and Tunisia to the social and cultural support of the students. With this the already existing partnership between the TUM [Technical University] and the University of Tunis II is completed. The agreement of cooperation is to intensify exchange programs between the two countries.
