Why exactly, one could wonder, do student cultural activities and events need special support in Munich? Isn't particularly Munich exeptional in its variety of cultural events and offers, so many in fact, that it seems impossible to take them all in, let alone use them. And aren't those offers also available to students, often even to reduced prices?

Yes, but that is also precicely the reason why the Studentenwerk [Student Union] supports all student efforts in this area, because it is so much harder in a city like Munich for cultural student initiatives and events to compete with the professional scene. Avant-garde, intercultural, improvised and explicitly non-commercial projects are often endangered  to drown in the competition with the  well-organized professional agencies. To support students in their own creative cultural agenda,  the Studentenwerk München established the Culture Bureau.
